IPL 2018 Auction is over with all eight teams geared up for a busy season to follow. The two-day sporting extravaganza was a massive affair, with franchise owners’ choices sending as many ripples down the social media as the auction itself.

But it was mostly the three teams which were at the centre of the Twitter chatter during the two-day auction – Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab.

Here’s a quick look as to why these teams made Twitter stop and take notice:

Preity’s Shopping Spree

Kings XI Punjab’s Preity Zinta was, quite literally, the talk of the auction. Her impulsive shopping instincts were on full display during the two-day bonanza, with Preity raising her placard every time a player went under the hammer.

Even Sehwag seemed amused at Preity’s eagerness. He took to Twitter to say, “Ladkiyon ko shopping ka shock hota hai. Preity full on shopping ke mood mein hain. Har cheez khareedni hai”. This, of course, led to a wave of comments from Tweeple, who were soon to follow course.

Rajasthan Made News for Pocketing the Most Expensive Players

Rajasthan did their scouting right and went home with some of the most expensive players in the auction. Ben Stokes, who is the most expensive player of the 11th edition of IPL along with Jaydev Unadkat, who is second costliest, will be seen sporting the Royal jersey once the tournament starts.

Sanju Samson, another expensive buy, will also represent Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2018.

Chennai’s Fixation With ‘Old Players’

CSK, led by former Indian captain MS Dhoni, made news for prioritising experience over young energy. There were quite a few jokes floating on Twitter, with experts and fans expressing their opinions on Chennai’s choices for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

Likewise, CSK also managed to save a massive Rs 6.5 crore at the end of the auction – the most by any team. How could it possibly go unnoticed under the vigilant watch of Twitterati?

...And Some Serious Saving Goals

And then, of course, there were the way too obvious Lungi Ngidi jokes flooding the internet as soon as Chennai Super Kings picked him at a steal of a price of just 50 lakh.
