Odisha Police on Monday arrested a person on charges of impregnating a minor of a girls' hostel run by the ST & SC Development Department of the state government.
The accused was arrested by personnel of the Mahila Police Station from Adivasi Gaon in Bhubaneswar, DCP Anup Sahoo said.
The man, who is a distant relative of the minor girl, allegedly raped her twice, when she had gone to the house of a relative at Salia Sahi area during the summer vacation.
The matter came to the fore during a health check-up conducted under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) on 28 June. Further investigation is underway, police said.

A businessman and his wife were robbed by three armed men in North West Delhi’s Model Town early Sunday morning when they pulled their Mercedes into their home’s private parking. The accused, who followed the family into the parking area, also exchanged fire with police later in the day, but managed to escape.
Varun Bahl (35), his wife Nupur and their seven-year-old son and four-year-old daughter were returning from a relative’s home in Greater Kailash when the incident took place.

A 40-year-old domestic help was arrested for alleged theft of valuables worth Rs 13.78 lakh from the residence of a chartered accountant in Goregaon.
The accused was identified as Neeta Jadhav. According to police, she ran into financial troubles due to which she resorted to stealing.
Police said the complainant, Mitesh Kothari, lives in a joint family in a duplex apartment on the 14th floor of a highrise on MG Road in Goregaon (West). He has four domestic helps working in the apartment.

A sub-inspector’s uniform was torn and his pistol stolen, allegedly by an unruly mob following police intervention in a land dispute between two groups of villagers in Greater Noida’s Dankaur Sunday night. Police said they received information about a dispute between residents of Makanpur village in UP and Sheikhpur in Haryana’s Palwal and visited the spot.
“There was a problem regarding alleged sand mining on a portion of land falling at the junction of Haryana and UP. The two villages are located on either side. An argument was taking place between groups from both villages, which escalated and the crowd attacked the sub-inspector from Dankaur police station. Almost 50 people have been named in the FIR,” said Awaneesh Kumar Singh, Circle Officer (Dadri).

The Mumbai crime branch on Monday arrested four people for allegedly kidnapping or buying babies and then selling them. Two boys, aged three months and two-and-a-half years respectively, were rescued, said police.
Two others were arrested for allegedly buying the infants.
“The gang sold newborns to childless couples or parents who wanted a boy. The gang was operating for more than three years and we are trying to find the number of children they kidnapped or bought and sold,” said Akbar Pathan, deputy commissioner of police (crime branch).

The Special Task Force (STF) of Haryana Police, on Monday, arrested a doctor of Civil Hospital, Hisar, who helped a state-based gang to dupe insurance firms in the name of terminal cancer patients after misrepresenting their deaths as accidents with the help of fraudulent autopsy reports.
Hindustan Times had exposed the fraud in May this year.
Police said the doctor, Amit Singh, 45, was working at the general hospital in Hisar and was appointed by Haryana Civil Medical Services in September 2015.

Two people were arrested on charges of cow slaughter in Muzaffarnagar and one quintal of meat was seized from them, police said Monday.
They were arrested from a jungle in Nirdhana village on Sunday after an encounter, they said. Circle Officer Dhananjay Singh told reporters that two pistols and cartridges were also seized from them.

A 41-year-old man was arrested after a brawl with a traffic policeman during a vehicle inspection in the city on Sunday.
When the policemen were involved in vehicle inspection at SAP theater bus stop on Sunday evening, they stopped Murali of Samundipuram. Police constable S Ponangannan checked him and found that Murali was in an inebriated state, a police officer said.
Ponangannan had allegedly slapped Murali after both had heated exchanges. Following which, Murali attacked him and tore his shirt in full public view. The brawl continued for more than 20 minutes as few other policemen who were present at the spot could not stop it.

A taxi driver has been arrested for flashing a passenger during a commute from Siddhi VInayak Temple to Nariman Point. The woman, who's mother and sister were sitting behind, said that the cabbie did not stop the vehicle despite her repeatedly telling him to do so.
She uploaded clips of him in the act online, following which three other women complained of similar experiences with the man.
