1. Amit Shah to Attend RAF's Raising Day Ceremony in Gujarat

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will review the anniversary parade of the RAF, the specialised anti-riot and crowd control paramilitary unit of the country, later this month in Gujarat, officials said on Thursday, 19 September.

They said Shah will be the chief guest at the 27th Raising Day event of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) at its 100th battalion base in Ahmedabad on 30 September.

The home minister will take the salute and review the operational preparedness of the blue dungaree donning force, they said.

The RAF raising day falls on October 7, the day it became operational in 1992, but the event has been preponed owing to some commitments of the home minister, they added.

2. Woman Jumps Into Pond With 3-Month-Old, Both Drown

A 21-year-old woman and her three-month-old baby allegedly drowned in a pond in Mehsana on Wednesday evening (18 September), in what police claims was a suicide by a mentally unstable victim.

The incident occurred around 4 pm on Wednesday in Berva village of Mehsana taluka in Mehsana district. The woman allegedly jumped into a pond along with her three-month-old baby girl. Witnesses who saw the woman jump in tried to save her, but in vain, police said.

The deceased woman has been identified as Aarti Rawal (21), a native of Berva village of Mehsana taluka.

3. City Cops Baffled With Alteration in New Traffic Norms

The Gujarat Police department is baffled with the alteration and date extension of new traffic fine as per the Motor Vehicle Act, 2019. Once the implementation was done, there were some selected traffic norms, fine dates were extended by the government. However, the decision, made police started to think about whether to take the fine or not.

The government on 10 September had announced that the deadline for compliance of traffic norms and implementation of amended Gujarat Motor Vehicle Act 2019 will be implemented in State from 16 September onwards.

Meanwhile, the government on 12 September made another decision to extend the deadline of Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate to 30 September and High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) to 16 October. State police had to make their staff aware of the extension and to let got the violator of PUC and HSRP as per the date after the announcement.

4. Rs 4 Lakh Each to Kin of 5 Family Members Who Died in Septic Well

Two days after five members of a family died after falling into a makeshift septic well in a village in Patan, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.

On Tuesday evening (17 September), five members of a family in Gujarwada village under Sami Taluka of Patan, died due to asphyxiation, after falling into a makeshift septic well beside the washroom of their house. The incident occurred when a 40-year-old woman of the family accidentally fell into the 20-foot deep well and four other members jumped into it in a bid to save her. According to police, all five died inhaling poisonous gases.

A statement from the CM’s office read, “An ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each is granted to the deceased of Gujarwada village from the CM’s relief fund.”

5. Depression May Bring Heavy Rainfall in Gujarat

The weather office has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the state, especially the areas in south Gujarat and Saurashtra, during the next two-three days.

The heavy rainfall is expected under the influence of a low-pressure area, which is likely to form over the east-central Arabian Sea and adjoining areas of the northeast Arabian Sea and south Gujarat coast by Friday.

The weather office has clarified that the conditions are favourable for the movement of the system west-northwestwards and then intensify into a depression during the subsequent 48 hours.
