To keep the roads safe, the Motor Vehicle (Amendments) Act 2019 is welcomed. But the question is, will increasing penalty amount solve the road safety issues?

The challans have increased, but what about the problems which the government is not paying any attention to? What about the potholes on the roads? What about the sudden speed breakers? What about badly lit streets?

Traffic News System in India Founder Shailesh Sinha said, “Challan is a big issue in our country,

but traffic education is a bigger issue. Traffic laws should be a subject in schools. Children should be taught how lethal a vehicle can be.”

According to Indian Road Congress (IRC), speed breakers should be 17 meters of radius, 3.7 metres wide and 10 centimetre high. Intersections should also be paid heed to.

And as per traffic experts, in small towns and rural areas, where two or more roads meet and there is enough place and average traffic congestion, a roundabout is built.

There is lack of street lights in small towns and rural towns and it leads to people driving vehicles on high beam, causing poor visibility situation on roads for other vehicles.

Not just the potholes, the government is responsible for fixing other damages on the roads too.

The government should also focus on infrastructure of education system in traffic. It will inculcate uniformity and discipline. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure that there is no corruption in the traffic system in the future. If the government does not make sure of this, public may reject its new policies.
