Veteran Bengali actor Chinmoy Roy has passed away, family sources said Monday. He was 79.
Roy died of cardiac arrest at his Salt Lake residence on Sunday, they said.
Roy is survived by his son and daughter, his wife actress Jui Banerjee had died a few years back.
Roy had started his career in Bengali films in the 60s and became indispensable to the film makers for his portrayal of comic characters retaining the very essence of Bengaliness and a certain culture.

Some Houston-area residents have been urged to remain indoors due to a fire at a petrochemicals terminal in Houston, US on Sunday, 17 March.
The fire started Sunday morning at Intercontinental Terminals Company in Deer Park, about 24 kilometers southeast of Houston, and continued to burn Sunday night. Deer Park officials issued a shelter-in-place directive after the fire was reported.
Efforts to extinguish the fire with foam continue.

A fire at Toronto Pearson International Airport has caused officials to cancel all US-bound flights from Terminal 1.
The blaze broke out in the terminal Sunday evening and the area was evacuated. The airport announced in a tweet that all flights to the US scheduled to depart from Terminal 1 had been cancelled.
The fire was extinguished a short time later. Peel regional paramedics say one woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Another was treated at the scene.

Officials said no casualties has been reported and efforts are on to douse the blaze.

This is the second time the airline is defaulting on its foreign debt servicing.

The Supreme Court has said that acid attack is an "uncivilised and heartless crime" which does not deserve any clemency.
The apex court observed this while asking two convicts, who have already undergone five year jail for throwing acid on a 19-year-old girl in 2004, to pay Rs 1.5 lakh each as additional compensation to the victim.
The top court also asked the Himachal Pradesh government to pay compensation to acid attack survivor under the Victim Compensation Scheme.
"Indeed, it cannot be ruled out that in the present case the victim had suffered an uncivilised and heartless crime committed by the respondents (two convicts) and there is no room for leniency which can be conceived," a bench of Justices A M Khanwilkar and Ajay Rastogi said.
