The Quint talks to Shivpal Singh Yadav, President of Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohiya) who broke off from the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh.

The party is only six months old and Yadav asserts that they want to be a part of the alliance in UP.

“People of Uttar Pradesh want an alliance between Congress and us. If the alliance happens, it will be a major threat to the BJP.”

Speaking on the logistics of the alliance, Yadav said that he has asked Congress to spare two seats: Firozabad and Hatawa. On being asked if Congress' reluctance to form an alliance could be because they are under pressure from Akhilesh, Shivpal Singh Yadav replied by saying that “Congress is scared of Samajwadi Party.”
