1. EVMs in Trouble; Absent Voters Lead to Uproar

Raising doubts on the sanctity of electronic voting machines, the Opposition on Sunday, 14 April, asked for a return to paper ballot. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu claimed that 21 political parties demand 50 percent EVMs be verified against paper trails. Naidu further said that countries like Germany and the Netherlands have opted for ballot papers. Earlier, TDP had written to the Election Commission of India on the issue. On the other hand, voters’ names missing from the electoral rolls is turning out to be a huge issue. Rahul Dravid, who is the Election ambassador for Karnataka, has found himself unable to vote. Dravid’s name was deleted from his old Indiranagar constituency after he changed his residence. However, reportedly Dravid’s name was not updated in the constituency where he is currently living. Hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the Abdullah and Mufti families for "ruining" three generations of Jammu and Kashmir, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday hit back at Modi saying the prime minister bashes political families before elections and then tries to ally with the same parties once polls are over. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra held a roadshow in Assam’s Silchar on her first campaign trip outside Uttar Pradesh in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
