Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar’s much awaited 2.0 trailer has been launched. 2.0 is a sequel to the 2010 blockbuster Enthiran (Robot) which also featured Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Rajinikanth is reprising his role as Dr Vaseegaran and also Chitti, while Akshay Kumar plays his nemesis, Richard. Chitti is brought back to life when a gigantic avian monster who rises to power after taking over all the world’s mobile phones. What ensues is of course an epic and visually spectacular battle.
Now, does the trailer work? While the teaser seemed to point at uninspiring rip-offs of several Hollywood flicks, the 2.0 trailer holds more promise. Like Rajamouli’s Baahubali, Shankar’s magnum opus just might work, thanks to its visual spectacle, technological finesse and of course - Thalaiva.
The film marks Akshay Kumar’s Tamil debut. At the trailer launch, the actor said that his role demanded him to wear more make-up than what he had worn in his entire career. Akshay began his speech in Tamil amid a loud cheer from the audiences. He said he practiced for two hours to speak in Tamil. Quickly switching to English, Akshay said: "I can't express my feelings in words. I'm really thankful to Shankar sir and Lyca Productions for this opportunity."
Rajinikanth on the other hand said that he had no doubt that 2.0 would be a superhit.
2.0 also stars Amy Jackson, Adil Hussain and Sudhanshu Pandey, and is releasing on 29 November.
