Tata Sky is the latest player in the country to offer broadband internet to consumers at affordable price point.

The direct to home (DTH) giant has its broadband division working out of over 12 to 13 cities in the market, with high-speed data plans starting from Rs 590 and going up to Rs 1,599 for one month.

These plans are clearly meant to appeal to consumers, who’re eagerly awaiting for Reliance Jio’s yet-to-launch Jio GigaFiber internet service. Tata Sky’s service currently challenges existing players like Airtel, ACT Fibernet and Excitel among others.

It’s not just mobile data where the prices have come down, we’ve seen the trends trickling down to the fixed line internet segment as well.

The company had first announced its data plans back in August last year, coinciding with the debut of Reliance Jio GigaFiber. But the latest plans have been revised, with more data on offer at lower prices, compared to how it was back then.

The new plans are available in select cities like Ahmedabad and Surat, while in Delhi, the most affordable plan will cost you Rs 999, offering 25Mbps speed but with unlimited data usage.

The 12 cities where Tata Sky has rolled out its broadband plans are Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ghaziabad, Delhi, Pune, Bhopal, Chennai, Gurugram, Thane, Noida, Bengaluru and Mira Bhayandar (Maharastra).

As the list here suggests, the plans will come with a bundled router but the company is going to charge you installation fees of Rs 1,200 to fix up the connection at your residence.

Considering Jio GigaFiber will be available with free data plans, but a security deposit of Rs 2,500 and 4,500 for 50Mbps and 100Mbps offerings respectively, it’ll be intriguing to see if other broadband players bring down the prices of their plans in the coming weeks.
