Chennai Super Kings booked a place in the IPL finals for the eighth time in 10 years as they defeated Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets in Vizag. Chasing 148 for victory, Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson scored fifties each and added an 81-run stand to set up the chase for Chennai.
Both were dismissed on 50s, as Delhi felt that they came back into the game. However, Ambati Rayudu (20*) was unbeaten at one end with Suresh Raina (11) adding crucial runs to help Chennai get to a win.
Earlier, Chennai won the toss and elected to field first. Regular wickets harmed Delhi as they failed to get any momentum in their innings. Chennai were also equally good in the field as the likes of Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja and du Plessis saved crucial runs for them.
It was an easy win at the end for Chennai as their experienced line-up took them over the line at the end. This was also their 100th IPL win. On the other hand, it was heartbreak for Delhi Capitals and their fans as they did all the hard work to get to the Playoffs for the first time since 2012 but could materialise the dream of making their first ever IPL final.
Twitterverse congratulated Chennai for making yet another final while sympathised with a young Delhi Capitals side who put up a brilliant show throughout the campaign.
This is how Twitter reacted to Chennai’s win and Delhi’s loss.
Chennai Super Kings will now face Mumbai Indians in the final of the IPL on Sunday, 12 May in Hyderabad. In the previous two meetings between both the teams in the finals, Mumbai Indians came out victorious on both occasions in 2013 and 2015.
