UP Min Visits Village of 8-Yr-Old Boy Who Was Killed in Encounter

As the bullet hit the eight-year-old Madhav, both the police and criminals fled from the spot.

Uttar Pradesh Minister Shrikant Sharma, on Friday, 19 January, visited Mohanpur Aduki village in Mathura, where an eight-year-old boy was killed in alleged police firing.

Four police personnel were involved in the encounter. They have been suspended, and six more have been sent to police lines.

Madhav was killed on Wednesday in a firing exchange between police and criminals in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura, police had said. The boy was killed when a bullet hit him. However, it is not clear whether it was the bullet of police or the criminal that took the eight-year-old’s life, reported NDTV.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the “unfortunate incident” and ordered a probe by the Inspector General of Police, Agra. He has also announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the family.

The boys family have claimed that Madhav was playing with his friend near his residence when the bullet hit him. Villagers rushed the boy to the hospital where he died within moments, reports NDTV.

As the bullet hit him, both the police and criminals fled from the spot.

The family of the deceased has alleged irresponsibility on the police's part. However, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Swapnil Mamgai has said the investigation is underway in this matter, and police will extend its full support to the family at this hour of grief, reported ANI.

It is a very unfortunate incident, and I extend complete support to the family. The matter will be looked into by a Deputy Superintendent of Police. He will examine the case from all angles and will reveal if there was any negligence on behalf of the police. The body of the deceased has been sent for postmortem, to identify who’s bullet was responsible for the child’s death.
