Former Maharashtra chief minister Sushilkumar Shinde, and city Congress leaders Milind Deora and Priya Dutt are among the first candidates announced by the Congress for the state.
Five candidates from Maharashtra figured in a list released by the All-India Congress Committee on Wednesday.
Shinde will contest from Solapur, his Lok Sabha constituency. Deora was renominated from Mumbai south, while Dutt will contest the Mumbai north-central constituency. Dutt had earlier expressed unwillingness to contest, but was asked by the party leadership to fight the polls. She will challenge Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) member of Parliament, Poonam Mahajan.

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday asked the Maharashtra government if it has thought of a substitute occupation for 600 fishermen families whose livelihood is under threat from the construction of the 35.6-km coastal road.
A Division Bench of Chief Justice Naresh Patil and Justice N.M. Jamdar was hearing a petition filed by two fishing societies raising grievances against the coastal road project that proposes to connect Marine Drive to Kandivali. The petitions have said the project will lead to the loss of direct access to the sea and coastal commons due to reclamation and loss of coastal resource, habitats and fish-breeding areas.

Central Railways (CR) has decided to restore Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)-recognised heritage structure, to its past glory.
According to the zonal railway, the original colour of the ceiling was white and the colour of the sculptures was gold, and hence, they decided to paint them in their original colour. To resemble its original look, a portion of the glass-painted ceiling at the terminus’ suburban railway concourse has been replaced with Burma teak wood, and painted white. The sculptures around the ceiling have been painted in gold to resemble its original look.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation employees, who were deployed on poll duties during the 2017 BMC elections, are yet to get their remuneration. Nearly 4,300 employees are entitled to approximately Rs 6.5 crore as remuneration for election duty. In the last two years, despite several requests from the affected employees, the civic administration has not cleared the dues.

Reports of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) realigning Metro 2B near Bandra Kurla Complex due to security concerns for Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s residence Matoshree have irked the Parsi community.
The community had been demanding realignment of the underground Metro 3 tunnels to preserve the sanctity of two fire temples located near the Princess Street junction, but their request was not considered.
