While Congress President Rahul Gandhi is busy consolidating a united Opposition against the BJP on the national front, the party’s Mumbai faction, it seems, has been plagued with infighting.

Speaking to The Quint, party MP Milind Deora has declared that he may not contest the upcoming elections, owing to internal differences within the party.

“It is no secret that there are problems in the party.”

Deora also took a dig at Congress’ Mumbai President Sanjay Nirupam, saying that his leadership had failed party members.

“I am hurt and disappointed. Many Congress leaders are sitting at home today. One should talk to these Congress leaders about why they feel dejected, disillusioned,” he added.

Deora also told The Quint that a lot of questions are being raised over how the Mumbai Congress is being run.

“There is no unity in the party’s Mumbai unit. Each leader is forming separate factions within the party. It is unfortunate that at a time when the Congress is unifying on a national level, the Mumbai unit is witnessing such differences,” Deora said.

He also said that the party leaders at the national level had also been informed of the situation in the Mumbai unit many times, but to no avail.

“No concrete steps have been taken to diffuse the situation,” he added.

“Given the circumstances, I am unsure on whether to contest the polls or not,” Deora told The Quint.
