Four policemen were killed on Wednesday, 29 August, in a terrorist attack in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, police told PTI.
The incident took place at Bonagam in Shopian, a police officer said.
A team has been formed to investigate the incident, police officer told PTI.
The deceased were identified as Constable Ishfaq Ahmad Mir, Constable Javaid Ahmad Bhat, Constable Mohammad Iqbal Mir, and Special Police Officers Adil Manzoor Bhat.
Following the death of the four policemen, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid and Inspector General of Kashmir police, SP Pani paid tribute to the deceased during the wreath laying ceremony.
In a separate incident on the same day, two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including the outfit’s commander Altaf Ahmed Dar, alias Altaf Kachroo, were killed in South Kashmir's Anantnag district, police said.
A spokesman of the police said based on a specific intelligence, Jammu and Kashmir police along with other security forces launched the search operation at Muniward village of Khanabal area in the district at the crack of dawn.
