Expressing confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party would be able to win 22 of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in the State, party State unit president B.S. Fissures between the Congress and JD(S) — never the best of friends in Old Mysore region — were out in the open after some JD(S) workers shouted pro-Modi slogans at a meeting in Mysuru on Friday when urged to work for the Congress.
The meeting was convened by JD(S) minister GT Devegowda, who wanted party workers to campaign for the Congress candidate CH Vijayshankar in Mysuru. In return, the JD(S) wanted a commitment from the Congress it would support to their candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy in Mandya.
Although Devegowda tried to pacify the workers, they walked out of the meeting. The open demonstration of defiance and anger comes a day after JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda claimed that Congress leaders in Mandya were working to defeat his grandson Nikhil.
