Actor and model Lisa Ray took to Instagram to share her disappointment with a publication that chose to publish a racy picture of her accompanying an article about her new book Close to the Bone. The memoir traces her journey from the start of her career and explores subjects such as being sexualised at the age of 16 and her battle with cancer.
The picture that the paper decided to publish, in which Ray is posing in a revealing dress, was an example of the casual sexism that women face each day, she pointed out in her post.
Lisa opened up about her experience of being considered a sexual figure at the age of 16 during the launch of Close to the Bone. “I hate to be labelled and put into boxes but I had to deal with it since a young age because I was a sex symbol at the age of 16. It was completely unanticipated. To suddenly become this figure for an entire nation and on top of that, to look much older, that has haunted me my entire life up until now.” she told PTI.
