YouTube sensation Lilly Singh is a 30-year-old Canadian actor, comedian, author and social media sensation widely known by the moniker of ‘Superwoman’. The first episode of A Little Late With Lilly Singh aired late on Monday night 16 September in the United States. She became the first south-Asian , bisexual woman of color to get her own late night show.

Earlier, Lilly has spoken at length about the significance of being one of the few women ever to host a US talk show.

“I feel like my presence has become much larger than myself now. Previously, all my accomplishments have been surrounded around me, they have been about me or a milestone I set on my channel or otherwise my life. But this, I feel is bigger than me. It’s about a glass ceiling being shattered. I felt an overwhelming amount of support with this particular announcement, more so than I have with for anything else in my life. So, I do feel like I am being lifted up by so many people. It has been a sweet feeling,”

Talking to The Quint, Lilly spoke about stepping into a new world with a live audience:

“What I am not used to is working with a network and not having complete control. For the past eight years, I have made all the final decisions. I have had all the control over all of my content So in some regards, it was starting over in terms of being a learning process, learning how to work with team this big, learning how to have levels of approval, learning how to work with the network. Yes, I felt really unprepared for that.”

Talking about if the pressure gets too much she said:

“Yeah I mean, I do feel a lot of pressure in general. I feel a mix of excitement, being honoured and being a lot of pressure because of course, when I started my show, there were a lot of headlines like ‘Woman of colour', 'bisexual woman', every category. There were people who actually came up to me and said, “Two billion people are counting on you” and I am like "Okay! That’s a lot of pressure." I am taking it as more of an honour.”

A LIttle Late With Lilly Singh airs every Saturday and Sunday at 8 PM on Star World.
