Premature balding seems to be the hot favourite subject for directors this season, as yet another film on the topic is set to release in November, along with Ayushmann Khurrana’s Bala.
Ujda Chaman, starring Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety actor Sunny Singh and Maanvi Gagroo, revolves around a 30-year-old man and his difficulty in finding a life partner due to balding. The trailer sees him being made the subject of jokes by everyone, including his family until Maanvi’s character comes into his life. Abhishek Pathak turns director with this film.

The film’s poster was also revealed recently by trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Bala starring Ayushmann, Yami Gautam and Bhumi Pednekar too revolves around the same topic. The film’s teaser was released recently and shows Ayushmann giving off “cool dude” vibes as he sings the song ‘Koi Na Koi Chahiye’ from Shah Rukh Khan’s Deewana. But as his cap flies away with the wind, his balding head is revealed, and he quickly moves to Rehno do chodo bhi jane do yaar, lines from the song ‘Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai’ from Rajesh Khanna’s Kati Patang.
While Bala has been in riddled with controversies since its announcement, Ujda Chaman has had to face no such issue yet. It’ll hit the theatres a week before the Ayushmann starrer, on 8 November. In June, Kamal Kant Chandra had filed a police complaint, accusing Ayushmann, director Amar Kaushik and producer Dinesh Vijan for starting the shoot of Bala despite his objections over the script of the film. Kamal has accused the makers of plagiarising his script, and said that he had “narrated the film to Ayushmann in 2017”.
