Despite the mixed reviews, filmmaker Abhishek Sharma's Ram Setu starring Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Nushrratt Bharuccha has seen a great opening at the box office on its first day. As per reports, the film has collected Rs 15 crore nett in India, beating Akshay's last theatrical release Raksha Bandhan, which saw an opening of only Rs 8 crore.
The Akshay Kumar-starrer clased with filmmaker Indra Kumar's comedy-drama Thank God, starring Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra. However, Ram Setu's collections were far ahead of Thank God on the first day.
According to a report by boxofficeindia.com, Abhishek's adventure drama had the second highest collection at the box office for a Hindi-language film in 2022, trailing behind Ranbir-Alia starrer Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, which was released in the theatres on 9 September.
In addition to the report, the film is particularly performing well in the states of central India such as Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar among others.
The film follows the story of Akshay Kumar, an athiest-archaeologist-turned-believer, who sets on a deadly expedition to discover and save Lord Ram's mythical bridge Ram Setu, from the government's demolition.
Ram Setu hit the big screens on 25 October.
