White House announced Sarah Huckabee Sanders as the new press secretary and Anthony Scaramucci as the communications director, after Sean Spicer resigned as White House Press Secretary on Friday, reported The New York Times.

His resignation comes after US President Donald Trump appointed New York financier Anthony Scaramucci as communications director earlier on Friday.

CNN reported Scaramucci as saying:

I don’t have any friction with Sean.

Trump had requested that Spicer stay on, but Spicer had reportedly told the President that the appointment was a "mistake", reported NYT, quoting an anonymous source.

The White House was left without a communications director after Mike Dubke resigned from the roe in May.

Spicer was the public face of the Trump administration that has been in power for last six months.

Early Career

Spicer was the communications director on the House Government Reform Committee in 2000. He was later appointed as director of incumbent retention at the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC).

Between 2003 and 2005, Spicer was the communications director and spokesman for the House Budget Committee.

He subsequently became the communications director for the Republican Conference of the US House of Representatives.

During President George W Bush's administration, he was the assistant for media and public affairs at the Office of the United States Trade Representative.

Spicer was also a partner at Endeavor Global Strategies, a public relations firm he co-founded to represent before the US government foreign governments and corporations with business proposals.

First the Comic

The responses to the surprising move by Spicer yielded a wide ranging emotion — from humour to political speculation. Prominent talk show hosts Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel treated the news hilariously. More than Spicer himself, the condolences went to Melissa McCarthy who famously portrayed Spicer in Saturday Night Live comedy sketches.
