The Pakistan Government has planned to detain cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan before his protest against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on 2 November.

Pakistani newspaper The News International reported that apart from Khan, several other key leaders of his Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf party will be placed under house arrest.

The move comes “in order to thwart their efforts to mobilise a huge crowd against the government,” the newspaper wrote.

The PTI chairman and his party were going to protest in Islamabad against Sharif’s alleged corruption which came to light after the Panama Papers leak.

Imran Khan has threatened to initiate an “Islamabad lockdown which would aim to block the city and dissuade the government from functioning.”

Representatives of Sharif's party, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), said that “no one would be allowed to block Islamabad and any such move would be resisted by the government,” The News wrote.

The report further stated that Imran Khan has said that the party is ready for everything and “is now well prepared to face any untoward situation.”
