Eye to Eye.
If the three words above evoke a million emotions in under two seconds, you have possibly witnessed one of the biggest musical extravaganzas coming out of Pakistan – Taher Shah. Eye to Eye, a single music video, was Taher Shah’s debut in 2013. Now in 2016, he’s back with a new song, and people were waiting to see it, feel it, live it.
And now that Taher Shah’s Angel is here, opinions are once again divided. I play the ‘Angel’s advocate’ and argue why we should just see him, eye to eye.
Self Lovin’ It
Taher Shah’s latest song Angel released on 8 March, and social media went crazy.
But the man sure knows his music and has given himself full marks for the song he has written, sung and directed.
English Songs for the Masses
Taher Shah makes music for everyone – simple words set to music. He means what he says, but you may not know what he means. And just a few words are repeated throughout, which makes them very easy to remember.
Sample this – “Eye to eye, makes happy killer love, lifetime, once in a life. Substantial love is heaven for the size eyes. Spectacular eyes, our eyes, my eyes and your eyes, eye to eye, eye to eye”.
Well, if you can tolerate over a million mentions of ‘baby, baby, baby’ in Justin Bieber’s debut song, you are well trained to take this.
The Baritone Beats Autone
Taher Shah inspires me to sing. He gives me the hope that anybody can sing. Just listen to his baritone mixing with the high-pitched notes, and the tune going left, right and centre. This feels such a breath of fresh hair... err... air, against those ‘exotic’ songs which can give you a ‘hangover’.
He’s a Rockstar. Period.
Taher Shah has over 45 thousand followers on Twitter and over a lakh fans on Facebook. He has just released two songs which were exclusively online, yet he’s breaking the internet – he is trending in both India and Pakistan since Angel released.
In fact, a few fans at The Quint were quite excited too for the new video and hence made this in anticipation.
And for the wait we were blessed with an angel in a purple, velvet dress.
Now, we are off to heavens. To seek justice. Send in your wishes in the comments below.
