A pride of eight lions, including two cubs, was seen moving about in the residential area of Junagadh town near the Girnar Darwaza area on Tuesday night. Captured on a mobile phone, the video was posted on social media causing panic in the area.

Lions in Gir Natioal Forest have been feeling the pinch of space as they are growing in numbers and at the same time human encroachment within the forested area is shrinking their habitat.

Just last month 17 lions in Gir were caged as they were suspected of killing three people.

Around 40% of Gir’s estimated 520 lions are believed to be residing in areas populated by humans. (Inputs: IANS)
