The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has decided to launch a nationwide campaign against the International Yoga day being made compulsory in schools.

Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firing Mahali, a Muslim religious leader from Lucknow and member of the AIIMPLB said, “practices like Surya Namaskar are against Islam and therefore it shouldn’t be made compulsory in any educational Institution.”

“According to the constitution, no religious practices can be imposed on students of some other religion,” said Mahali.

The Muslim committee has taken up this issue seriously taking into consideration recent occurrences like ghar wapsi .

However, BJP leaders have claimed it to be a non-religious event. BJP’s Minister of States, Shripad Yesso Naik said, “Yoga day has nothing do with religion. Its all for our good health; no compulsions have been imposed on people who don’t want to be a part of it.”
