Usain Bolt is the fastest sprinter the world has ever seen. However, he failed to register his mark on his Olympics debut at Athens in 2004. Hampered by a leg injury, Bolt clocked a dismal 21.05 seconds in the first round of the 200 metre. The performance saw him eliminated in the very first round.
However, Bolt resolved to come back stronger and he did. In 2008 Beijing Olympic, the Jamaican sprinter broke the Olympic record as well as world record when he clocked 9.63 seconds.
His brilliant form continued as he broke the record for the 200 metre event as well when he clocked 19.31 seconds. Bolt then helped his country bag a gold in 4X100 metre relay as well, hence completing a golden hat-trick at the event.
Bolt bettered his 2008 record in 2009 when he clocked 9.58 seconds for his 100 metre race.
Ahead of London Olympics in 2012, Bolt had finished second in the trials for Jamaican team of 100 meters as well as 200 meters. This created quite a buzz as many started questioning the capability of the world record holder to defend his gold medals.
Bolt, however, silenced his critics with yet another golden hat-trick as he won gold in 100 metre, 200 metre and 4x100 metre relay. After the win, he proclaimed himself as a ‘Legend’.
Rio will most probably be his last Olympics. Will the Jamaican be able to achieve the ‘three-peat’?
