So yesterday the protest outside Ramjas college got violent. And I say this from personal experience because I got beat up too. And yes, my assaulter was a woman who happened to be on the ABVP side of the police cordon. And I was standing where a lot of fellow journalists were, but I just happened to be the one directly within grab n’ pummel reach. My colleagues, Anant and Shiv, got thrashed as well. By the cops.
But as is the nature of the Internet, nobody cares if I got beat up.
Because you see, I wasn’t bleeding and my face wasn’t obviously disfigured.
So one gentleman on Twitter commented that it looked like my hair had been done in a parlour. Thank you, just goes to show my hair always looks great. Even after chunks of it have been pulled out. Also, you should probably change the parlours you visit, bro.
Another lovely Twitter user said my thrashing made his day and even a ton by Kohli would NOT have satisfied him as much. Bhai, satisfaction ki sources kahin aur dhund lo. If violence satisfies you, go see a therapist.
Then there were those who called me a liar, said I deserved it, and that I was doing it to gain publicity.
Here’s some publicity for my deserving trolls.
I wasn’t a protester. I was a reporter. Look up the difference. And I managed to do a video after that because we use an iPhone. Ever broken a phone? It’s smashed but still works.
Yeh toh DU mein protest tha. Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq? Hata dein wahan se journos ko?
Don’t believe it happened? Hindustan Times got it on video. Wo bhi mile hue hain kya?
Get this straight. NOBODY deserves to be hit. Nobody.
And bhaiyon aur behenon, mujhe publicity ke liye maar khaane ki zaroorat nahin thi. I make videos regularly. Check out The Quint for more.
