There’s more to Seemanchal than politics, polarisation and elections. The Quint caught up with some students at Insaan Degree College in Kishanganj, where Asaduddin Owaisi and the AIMIM are trying to make their mark.

Yes, many of these first-time voters had heard of the Owaisi brothers long before the party came into their town, all thanks to social media.

We get messages on WhatsApp, where party representatives campaign for votes. They make promises which they never fulfil. We hope it happens this time around.

Most of the students who are eligible to vote said that they would go with the Mahagathbandhan. However, there were also two supporters each for the BJP and the AIMIM.

The level of political awareness among these boys is hardly surprising. They have had a controlled student election since they were in school, between three parties: Seva Dal, Shiksha Dal and Shanti Dal.

While the proponents of each party are idealistic on camera, a young student from Ahmed Shanti Dal told us;

Seva and Shiksha entered in into an alliance to keep Shanti out. But we will still beat them this time, when we vote on the 7th.

Looks like the students of Insaan Degree College have just the right mix of idealism and realism to vote intelligently in both the elections.
