The Supreme Court today sent controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Mohammad Shahabuddin to jail after rejecting his bail plea in a triple murder case.

Maintaining that the RJD leader should be sent to jail with immediate effect, the apex court asked the Bihar government to fast track Shahabuddin’s trial that has dragged on for years now.

Reacting to the incident, JDU leader Ali Anwar accused the BJP of spreading lies, as he praised the Bihar Governemnt for ensuring Shahabuddin’s return to jail.

The BJP hit back, accusing the JDU of facilitating Shahabuddin’s bail in the past.

The 49-year-old is accused of killing Rajiv Roshan – a chief witness in the murder of his two brothers in 2004. Today’s petition was filed by Chandrakeshwar Prashad, the father of these three men.
