“There was some issue that took place with the Kashmiris and that's why you cannot live here anymore” is what Aadil Gurezi heard on his return to Mumbai from Srinagar on 5th September.

A verified account on Instagram, 153k Subscribers on Youtube and more that 10 million views on one of his songs are not enough for Aadil Gurezi to stay in his house. If a recognised personality like him has to go through this struggle then one can only imagine the plight of other Kashmiris around.

‘“We are sorry, you can’t stay here.’ Then I asked them why? They then said that our owner Rashid ji and Dinesh ji very clearly stated that you can’t stay with us. We don’t want to keep any Kashmiri with us. I replied to them that in these heavy rains it is not easy to find a house. Finding a room in Mumbai is not easy.”

Aadil Gurezi was contacted by the cops after his story blew up on social media and the news. The cops assured him that nothing of this sort will happen and they even spoke to the brokers telling them that this eviction is wrong.

The DCP in Mumbai, who I’m really thankful to him and the whole team. They even told my broker that I’m a good artist with a known profile and how can they do something like this. Even after that, they said, even if he wasn’t an artist, he was still a Kashmiri. The cops spoke to them as well and they didn’t tell me anything the entire day. In the evening, when all of the media had picked this up, they called me at 8:30 pm and said that I should come back and live in the house. You get your N.O.C made while living here and don’t worry about anything else.

Aadil has been asked to come back to his house by his brokers but his only issue with this is that why did he have to make an issue out of this situation and why is it that the attitude of the landlords has changed after the involvement of the media and Police.
