Chinese technology company Huawei hopes to win customers in India with its new smartphone, the Honor 6 Plus. And they may be onto something here.
They have some crazy things to offer with this smartphone. But then the Indian smartphone Buyer is spoilt for choice. We’ll try to simplify it for you so that you can make an informed choice.
Watch: Huawei Honor 6 Plus Review
There is no hint of original design on the Huawei Honor 6 Plus.
And that is what you expect form Chinese smartphone makers in India. The end product always ends up looking like an iPhone, but in this case the back panel will remind you of a Sony Xperia Z3.
The front of the smartphone is stunning though. Huawei has actually made an effort to keep the bezels (Side panels of a smartphone) really thin (just 2.8 mm). With a 5.5 inch display it doesn’t feel big at all in your hand. It sure looks like a premium smartphone. It’s priced well too at Rs 26,499 (Black and White) and Rs 27,499 (Gold Edition).
What’s Good?
Huawei Honor 6 Plus, offers a good build quality, on the lines of what you might find on a Sony or an HTC smartphone. The 5.5 inch display is also bright, sharp and crisp.
The colors look very saturated and overall the display will never tire your eyes. At Rs 26,499, it has one of the best displays that will find on a smartphone.
Huawei Honor 6 Plus also offers a massive 3600 mAh battery that ensures that the smartphone lasts you really long.
The user interface on top of Android Operating System is Huawei’s own EMUI 3.0. This has some efficient features like launching the camera straight from the lock screen. The UI basically makes the Android OS go the iPhone way. You will find no app drawers for your apps.
In terms of performance, the Huawei Honor 6 Plus does not disappoint.
The smartphone is powered by a Octa Core (1.8GHz Quad Core+1.3GHz Quad Core) Processor that is backed by 3GB RAM. The smartphone is not sluggish at all.
Huawei houses the latest generation Kirin processors that support Heterogeneous Multi Processing (HMP). This makes the phone automatically switch between core clusters giving you increased battery efficiency and optimum performance depending on your requirement from the phone.
To put it simply its like a cruise control in your car, that gives you a comfortable ride and fuel efficiency. And the car always responds when you put the pedal to the metal and race it along.
What’s Bad?
The USP of the Huawei Honor 6 Plus is it’s Duo Camera. Huawei says that two cameras enable the software to extract depth information from the images. So basically, users can choose whether to keep the foreground or background in focus. A simple camera app can do that too.
The phone captures 1080p videos. What the camera on the Huawei Honor 6 Plus lacks is OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). So you might get a lot of hazy images and video recordings.
The Honor 6 Plus is equipped with a dual parallel 8MP rear camera that has a fast focus of 0.1 seconds and a resolution of 13 million pixels.
The flexibility in focusing the image with duo camera was also very unimpressive.
If you like to listen to music on the speakers of you smartphone, you will be a little disappointed. The speakers are neither loud or clear. The sound was a bit distorted on the Huawei Honor 6 Plus.
Huawei Honor 6 Plus is a shiny smartphone. So you’ll get a lot of fingerprint smudges. If you buy it, make sure to keep a cleaning cloth handy with you.
Why Buy it?
If you are looking for a smartphone with a good build quality, a big bright display and super-fast performance, Huawei Honor 6 Plus is what we recommend.
The price tag of Rs 26,499 is slightly steep. But you know what? The prices drop really fast, a little wait-and-watch can never hurt you there.
You can skip this one for now if you are looking for a smartphone with an out of the world camera.
Huawei has also taken the e-Commerce route with the Huawei Honor 6 Plus. The phone will be available only on Flipkart for now.
