1. Rohith Vemula Suicide and JNU Controversy Make it a Stormy Day 2 in Parliament

On the second day of the budget session, both Houses of Parliament rather expectantly saw uproar and multiple adjournments. In the Rajya Sabha, HRD Minister Smriti Irani and BSP Chief Mayawati had a heated exchange over PhD scholar Rohith Vemula’s suicide.

After being adjourned half a dozen times, the Lok Sabha finally heard an aggressive Jyotiraditya Scindia attacking the government for the way it handled the JNU crisis. But the BJP too held its own with Anurag Thakur’s counter attack.

2. JNU Row: Kanhaiya’s Bail Plea Hearing Deferred to 29 February

The Delhi High Court has deferred Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail plea hearing to 29 February. The High Court also expressed concern over Kumar’s safety and said, “we have to ensure that they do not even suffer a scratch”.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has informed the High Court that they will seek fresh remand of Kumar as Khaled and Anirban have been arrested on sedition charges.
