GST Bill in Rajya Sabha
The GST bill is finally being discussed in the Rajya Sabha. While Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is hopeful of implementing the GST Bill from April 2017, he has promised that manufacturing states like Maharashtra, Gujarat will be compensated for. Jaitley has also scrapped the 1 percent interstate tax.
While former Finance Minister P Chidambaram said that there were pieces of clumsy drafting in the bill, he also demanded that the GST rate not cross 18 percent. If and when the bill passes in the Upper House, it will go back to the Lok Sabha for re-evaluation.
Sonia Hospitalised in Delhi, Cuts Her Varanasi Trip Short
After cutting her Varanasi rally short owing to ill health, Sonia Gandhi was admitted to the Army Research and Referral Hospital in the capital for a medical check-up.
On Wednesday, she was shifted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. According to Dr D S Rana, Chairman (BOM), Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, “ Mrs Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital today at 01.30 pm and is in Dr Arup Basu’s care and his team from the Department of Pulmonology. She is dehydrated but is presently stable. Further investigations are being conducted. She has been advised rest .”
UWW Gives Narsingh Clean Chit, But Another Indian in Dope Net?
The United World Wrestling has given wrestler Narsingh Yadav the go-ahead to participate in the Rio Games that begin this weekend. This, after Narsingh won his battle with the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) against a positive dope test on Monday. His name was cleared after he was declared a ‘victim of sabotage’.
But India’s dope shame in the Rio Olympics build-up continues amidst indications that 200m runner Dharambir Singh has tested positive for a banned substance in an in-competition test conducted last month. Dharambir missed his flight to Rio on Tuesday night, amid speculation that he tested positive for an anabolic steroid. However there has been no official conformation yet.
