Indian Team vs England: Pandya Named, Gambhir Retained, Rohit Out

India start a long home series against England on 9 November and the BCCI’s selection committee was forced to make quite a few changes while naming the team for the first two Tests.

Who’s in: Gautam Gambhir has been retained in the squad after getting a call-up during the New Zealand series, following KL Rahul’s injury. Ishant Sharma too is back after missing the New Zealand Tests due to chikungunya, and following his performance in the ODI series. Hardik Pandya has earned his first Test call-up.

Who’s out: The string of injuries during the recently concluded New Zealand series now will have an impact on the upcoming matches as well. KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rohit Sharma are all going to be watching the action from home.

Ex-Jawan Commits Suicide Over OROP, Rahul Gandhi and Manish Sisodia Detained

Ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Garehwal, who was protesting at Jantar Mantar, committed suicide by consuming poison allegedly over the One Rank One Pension (OROP) issue.

The former Indian Army personnel reportedly took this drastic step to support OROP and highlight the government’s inaction over the issue.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi who went to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital to meet the deceased ex-serviceman’s family was denied entry and detained. He was released shortly after from Mandir Marg Police Station.

Talking to the reporters present, he said:

“What kind of India Modi government is creating... This is not how a democracy functions.”
