A three-day battle between security forces and terrorists holed up in the EDI building ended on Wednesday with the death of two militants, the army announced.
In an address to the media, Major General Ashok Narula, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Victor Force, said that the operation took time because there were 60 rooms in the building and all of them had to be cleared, including the bathrooms.
The security forces had to be careful as there were possibilities of civilians being present inside the building.
This is the second time the EDI building was targeted by terrorists this year. Earlier in February, the building was secured and sanitised after a 48-hour-long operation but had cost India the deaths of Three soldiers, two paramilitary personnel and a civilian and three terrorists had died.
Why The EDI Building, Again!
It is clear that the Pakistan-funded terror organisations are targeting the EDI building because it represents the local Kashmiri youth’s enterprising spirit while the separatists want to make cannon fodder or stone-pelters out of them.
