One BSF jawan and a 9-year-old boy were killed in heavy firing along RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir late on Sunday.
BSF jawan Sushil Kumar succumbed to bullet injuries, even as Pakistani Rangers continued to violate ceasefire along the de facto border for the second time in a week. Kumar’s mortal remains reached Kurukshetra early on Monday morning , where thousands joined the martyr’s family for his last rites.
Several civilians too were injured in the heavy gunfire, as shells landed on settlements located in areas close to the border. Many civilians braved shelling and firing, as they undertook the dangerous journey of ferrying the injured to the local hospital.
Rattled by heavy mortar shelling , villagers in Jammu’s Abdulian village huddled into bunkers. Some were even forced to run away to inner parts of the state.
The development comes just days after the Pakistani army targeted villages and hamlets along the LoC on Friday.
