District President of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, Janardan Mishra, is man of action, especially when it comes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship scheme – Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.
When Mishra learnt that a toilet in a school in his district was clogged, he knew better than to issue orders to sort the problem out. The MP took matters into his own hands, quite literally, and unclogged the toilet with his bare hands.
Later, he posted a video of it on Twitter. The video shows him, bent over the Indian-style toilet, digging out the soil causing the blockage with his hands and then a reed, till water flows without any obstruction.
This is not his first stint at making sure things get done (by simply doing them himself). The same day as this incident, he was seen sweeping the streets in Rewa Nagar. In another video, he is seen clipping the nails of students in a primary school, while explaining to them the importance of cleanliness. During another inspection at a state-run school in Nayi Garhi, he gave the students a nice scrubbing down when he found out that many of them hadn’t bathed in a few days.
The video, which has made its way around the internet and social media is a major boost to the the campaign and Modi’s often-repeated adage: we are all responsible for the cleanliness of India.
However, just a few days ago BJP’s Kalicharan Saraf, Rajasthan’s Health Minister, was seen urinating on the sidewalls of a road. When Saraf was contacted about the incident he said, “it’s not a big deal”.
