When 26-year-old acid attack survivor Lalita Bansi wed her fiance Ravi Shankar Singh in Mumbai on Tuesday 24 May, actor Vivek Oberoi made it a special occasion for the bride & the groom.
Lalita had met Ravi Shankar on a phone call that was actually a ‘wrong number’. But the two got talking and what began as a friendship, soon blossomed into love. When Ravi Shankar proposed marriage, Lalita was a bit taken aback. But when Ravi Shankar persevered, her family and she relented.
The Wedding
The wedding venue was the D’silva Technical College in Dadar. The bride wore an ornate crimson lehenga designed by the fashion stalwarts Abu-Sandeep. The glitzy wedding was attended by actor Vivek Oberoi, Congress MLA Nitish Rane and Dr. Jagannathrao Hegde, the former sheriff of Mumbai. Udyami Maharashtra, a business forum financed the expenses for the venue and function and also gifted a honeymoon package to the couple.
Lalita’s A Hero, Says Vivek Oberoi
Lalitha hails from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh and was allegedly attacked with acid in 2012 by her cousins, over a family dispute. She has so far undergone 17 surgeries and 12 more surgeries are lined up. She met Vivek Oberoi when she joined the Acid Survivors Saahas Foundation in 2016 and Oberoi calls her his ‘little sister’.
Lalita also runs a small business selling mangoes, while Ravishankar is a CCTV operator.
