Newly-weds Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma landed in Cape Town on Thursday, 28 December, ahead of India’s tour of South Africa. The Indian skipper, who missed the shorter format series against Sri Lanka due to his wedding, re-joined the team in Mumbai for the all-important tour.

Amid great speculation and rumours, the Indian skipper and Bollywood star got married on 11 December. The two tied the knot in a small ceremony in Italy which was attended only by family members. The couple then returned to India, where they hosted one reception in Delhi and one in Mumbai.

The Delhi reception was attended by Prime Minister Modi, while the Mumbai function saw the Hindi film fraternity, including Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan in attendance.

The reception saw a star-studded guest-list which also included people from the sports world and was represented by Chief selector Sandeep Patil, Saina Nehwal, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Virender Sehwag, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Hardik Pandya, Zaheer Khan, Jaydev Unadkat, Cheteshwar Pujara, Umesh Yadav and many more, while Bollywood bigwigs such as Rekha, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Kangana Ranaut, Prasoon Joshi, Anurag Kashyap, Lara Dutta, Ramesh Taurani, Aditya Roy Kapur, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Boman Irani, Rajkumar Hirani, newbie Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan, Dino Morea, Music Maestro AR Rahman were present.

India will take on South Africa in 3 Tests, 6 ODIs and 3 T20s during the series which starts on 5 January and ends on 24 January. The first test match between India and South Africa is scheduled to be held in Cape Town.
