The results for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services 2017 examinations were announced on Friday, 27 April. Durishetty Anudeep, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from Hyderabad was declared the topper, while Anu Kumari came in at second place. Sachin Gupta bagged the third rank.

As many as 990 names — 750 men and 240 women — have been recommended for the appointment to the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Foreign Service, the Indian Police Service and the Central Services, Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’.

An IRS officer (Customs and Central Excise cadre) posted as an Assistant Commissioner in Hyderabad, Anudeep reacted to the results saying it was not an easy journey, and thanked all the people who supported him.

Durishetty, who hails from Telengana secured this position on his fifth attempt.

Being able to achieve this rank today, I feeling incredibly grateful for all the support and help that many people have given me. And the credit goes to all of them. I want to thank each one of them by name. I am happy and grateful for their help.

The second place holder, Anu Kumari, says she used to take out 10-12 hours everyday to study. The 31-year-old is mother to a four-year-old.

I have worked in the private sector for nine years after marriage. After that, I quit my job and prepared for one-and-a-half-years.

Sachin Gupta, a mechanical engineer, who quit his job to join the civil services, has bagged the third rank.

This is my third attempt. I failed at my first attempt. In my second attempt, I got a rank of 575, due to which I got into the Indian Corporate Law Service whereI currently work, and this year, I came in third.
