Income Tax officials on Wednesday raided 39 locations linked to Karnataka Energy Minister DK Shivakumar, including the Bangalore resort in which 40 Congress MLAs from Gujarat have been holed up.

The raids triggered a massive war of words in the Parliament, where the Congress blamed the BJP for the sudden “timing and place” of raids.

Speaking in Rajya Sabha, Senior Congress MP Ghulam Nabi Azad accused the BJP of targeting Shivakumar as the energy minister was overseeing the stay Gujarat Congress legislators at a luxurious resort in Bangalore.

Responding to the Congress’ charge, Union Minister Arun Jaitley stated that “no Gujarat Congress MLA” was raided by the officials. He said they reached the resort only to interrogate “a Karnataka minister who chose to park himself” within its premises.
