Udalgiri village in Assam sports a festive look, as a unique wedding featuring two frogs is being celebrated to appease the rain god, ‘Barun’ and bring in the elusive monsoon.

The bizarre ritual requires both the frogs to be from different villages. Two separate groups first bathed the carefully selected ‘bride’ and ‘groom’ frogs separately and then decked them up in traditional colours. The bride was also gifted a gold chain by the villagers while the groom was allotted a representative to apply vermilion on his prospective wife.

A lavish feast was also laid out following which the newly-wed couple was released into a nearby pond to “convey the villagers’ message to the gods’’.
