Tourists were in for a pleasant surprise after Pir Panjal mountain ranges in Jammu And Kashmir’s Rajouri and Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu, Manali and Shimla received fresh snowfall.
Higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir, including Pir Panjal ranges in Rajouri, Gulmarg and Sonamarg received first snowfall of the season on 6 November, Wednesday while the plains were lashed by rain, bringing down the mercury by more than 10 degrees.
Parts of Himachal Pradesh including Kufri, Shimla, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti and Manali and higher regions of Uttarakhand, including Kedarnath and Badrinath also received fresh snowfall. The meteorological department has predicted heavy snowfall in the coming days. More snowfall in the higher and mid hills and rain in lower hills and plains is expected on Friday as well.
In Himachal, several arterial roads were blocked and power supply was disrupted in many parts. Also, Mughal road connecting Shopian and Poonch was blocked after heavy snowfall.
