A man opened fire inside a church in a small South Texas community on Sunday, reportedly killing at least 26 people and injuring many. Two officials have identified the suspect in the mass shooting as 26-year-old Devin Kelley. The Texas shooter, who reportedly had an assault rifle, wore a “ballistic vest”.

After the shooting, the gunman was fired at by a local resident with a rifle. The suspect dropped his assault weapon, and fled in his vehicle. Soon afterward, the suspect crashed his vehicle near the border of neighboring Guadalupe County and was found dead inside his car with a cache of weapons.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the gruesome attack in the church the deadliest mass shooting in the state's history. US President Donald Trump condemned the attack saying, “We join hands and lock arms through the tears and sadness, we stand strong. My administration will provide its full support to the great state of Texas. America is praying to god for the families of the victims. We will never ever leave their side.”
