The next time you are caught for a traffic violation in Bengaluru, you can simply swipe your debit or credit card. City cops recently adopted a new device, which can find motorists’ past violations, create a new violation notice, take the payment by card and print a receipt.
The demand for PoS machines began after demonetisation. As the policemen were carrying mobile devices to check violations, a camera, a portable printer and other equipment, adding a PoS machine to the long list had proven unfeasible. To solve the problem, one machine to perform all the needed tasks was introduced. Induction of over 650 of these new machines was completed in July 2017.
As the parliament amends Motor Vehicle Act, which proposes to increase traffic violation fines considerably, the swiping facility is expected to make life easier for both cops and motorists.
