The Quint caught up with actor Swara Bhasker, who’s been campaigning for the Aam Aadmi Party’s Lok Sabha candidate from East Delhi, Atishi. From Pragya Thakur’s candidature to the need to project clean candidates, here’s what Bhasker had to say.
First for Kanhaiya Kumar in Begusarai, then for Amra Ram in Rajasthan and now for Atishi in Delhi. How do you decide whom to campaign for?
My idea is really simple. As a patriot, my allegiance is towards the democratic ideals of India’s constitution. I am not a member of any party. I am only campaigning for those candidates who I feel are well-meaning, honest and are working to unite the country. I am not campaigning for the real ‘tukde-tukde gang’, who practice the divisive politics of hate, polarisation and cater to the needs of only one community or section.
Did you campaign for Digvijaya Singh or against Sadhvi Pragya Thakur in Bhopal?
I think every patriot and pious Hindu must campaign against Pragya Thakur. Personally, I feel Divijaya Singh is a suitable candidate in Bhopal.
