In yet another shocking incident, the owner of a Pune eatery was crushed to death and four others were left injured after the driver of an SUV rammed his vehicle straight into the outlet on Monday, 30 April.
Sixty-year-old Omprakash Pandinwar was sitting at the counter of Anant Bhojanalay in Pune’s Sangvi area when Sachin Jadhav, the driver of the SUV, drove straight in.
The wife of the deceased and three others, including the driver of the vehicle, were injured in the accident that occurred around 1 pm on Monday, according to the police.
A police officer said the SUV was travelling at a high speed on the main road opposite to the hotel.
"We have found CCTV (closed-circuit television) footage of the mishap in which it is clearly seen that the driver lost his control over the vehicle after it hit a speed-breaker. The vehicle swerved and rammed into the hotel with very high speed", a police officer told PTI.
The vehicle hit Pandinwar, who was sitting near the cash counter of the hotel, his wife, and another person present in the hotel.
"The driver of the SUV also sustained injuries and lost consciousness" the police officer added.
The owners of the SUV told The Times of India that 40-year-old Jadhav had been driving with them for over a decade and had never taken to drugs or had any prior record of road rage. His decision to not pull the brakes, remain a mystery, and can only be known after he regains consciousness.
