“What's happening in this country? Things not happening within four corners of law." These were the Supreme Court Bench’s words as it heard the Unnao cases, and came heavily down on the CBI on Thursday, 1 August.
The survivor and her lawyer are currently fighting for their lives, after being gravely injured in the car collision which took place on 28 July.
Accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar has been sacked from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Moreover, the Supreme Court passed orders today pertaining to the rape, accident and other cases related to the Unnao case. Here are the key highlights of all which unfolded at the Supreme Court:

All cases related to the matter will be transferred from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi.
The investigation in the case of the collision will be completed in seven days. However, as an exception, the CBI can take a week longer, but in no circumstance can the probe extend beyond a fortnight.
The designated judge in Delhi will commence the trial on a day-to-day basis and complete the trial within 45 days.
The Supreme Court has sought the views of the families of the survivor and their lawyer, about shifting them from the hospital at Lucknow to Delhi for advanced treatment.
SC has also announced Rs 25 lakh compensation for the survivor, to be paid by the UP government.
The court has ordered security and protection for the survivor, her lawyer, her mother, four siblings, uncle, and other immediate family members in Unnao.
About the matter of the victim's letter which did not reach the CJI, the Supreme Court Registry informed that the delay in dealing with the letter was not deliberate and that the Registry receives more than 5,000 letters every month.
The CBI is seized of the following cases in the matter:
- The first is the rape case in which Sengar is the prime accused.
- The second case pertains to the Arms Act against the Unnao survivor’s father, which was found to be fake.
- The third case was filed by the survivor’s mother, regarding her husband being killed in police custody after being thrashed by Sengar’s brother and his goons.
- The fourth is the gang rape of the survivor, a week after she was raped by Kuldeep Sengar.
- And the fifth is the case of the collision of the survivor’s car with a truck in Raebareli.
Meanwhile, the hospital where the victim and her lawyer are battling for their lives, said in a statement today, that the condition of the two remains critical.
