This is the the story of Shivam Solanki, a boy from a humble family in Gujarat’s Vadodara. Despite losing both arms and a leg to electrocution, Shivam achieved an outstanding 98.53 percentile and 89 percent without the help of a scribe in his Class 10 board exams.

He was electrocuted by high tension wires and had to get both his hands and a leg amputated. Against the odds, he wanted to pursue studies and achieve his dreams. He put in hours of hardwork, studying and practicing to write without his hands. He wanted to show to the world that despite his predicament, he could excel. Using strings and socks as a means of holding the pen, this boy practised writing day after day and was finally able to write small enough for the albhabet to fit in one line on the page. His parents encouraged him all through and he too had the will to prove that he could achieve his dreams.

I feel really good. I had thought at one time, what would become of him, not recognising, that it was God’s will that he do what he did. God heard him and kept him alive. He wants to study medicine and become a doctor. It is a very difficult situation for him and we need to put thought into it. We’ve all supported him in his studies. People will notice what he is really made of despite his predicament.

He hopes he can take admission in the science stream and study medicine to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor. Shivam Solanki has not only made his parents proud but also serves as an inspiration to the rest of the country.
