In an effort to make a difference to our surroundings, the Indian Men’s and Women’s Hockey Team landed up in Bengaluru to do their bit for the environment, as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Sending across a strong message to their followers, the team picked up garbage and tweeted their photos, in order to urge people to participate in the endeavour on 26 September.

We are very happy to be a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, started by PM Narendra Modi. It is our duty to keep our country clean, and it’s a message to everyone that it’s at our best if we keep the nation clean. We can save ourselves from many diseases too.

Sachin Tendulkar also geared up to clean his Bandra neighbourhood and joined the effort on 25 September. He urged everyone to participate in the cleanliness drive, and always dispose of garbage in the dustbins instead of throwing it around.

He claimed that keeping our surroundings clean will benefit everyone, and that we will then be able to create not just a Swachh Bharat, but also a Swasth (healthy) Bharat.

Nobody dirties their house, but as soon as we go out, we make our neighbourhood dirty. We call this Earth our mother, and yet, we spit and throw trash on her. We always call the cleaners the kachrawalas, but actually, we are the kachrawalas and they are the safaiwalas who clean our mess.
