Addressing the press in New Delhi on Sunday, 8 April, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad alleged that the Opposition was indulging in politics in the name of Dalit icon BR Ambedkar.
The presser came after protests across India by SC/ST groups over dilution of a provision of the SC/ST Act by the Supreme Court.
“Our party is working to strengthen the SC/ST Act. This is being opposed by Rahul Gandhi,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad.
The law minister alleged that the Congress, Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party have supported violence and disrupted peace in India.
Union Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot said that while Kanshi Ram never believed in violence, his protege “Mayawati is walking towards that path.”
On Monday, 2 April, hundreds or protesters had aggressively and vehemently forced shops and other establishments in various parts of the country to shut down as a reaction to the dilution of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act by the Supreme Court.
